Most failed lawns we're called to replace weren't bad turf — they were bad prep. Turf rolled straight onto compacted clay, builders' rubble or last year's dead grass will brown off within 6 weeks, no matter how expensive the rolls were.
Our turfing service is built around the prep, not the laying. We strip the old surface, kill perennial weeds, screen and amend the soil, level to a 25mm tolerance, and only then lay premium Scottish-grown turf cut within 24 hours of delivery. The rolls are butted tight, top-dressed, and rolled in.

Turfing — Methods, Materials & Variations
Turfing isn't one job — there are several distinct scenarios with different prep requirements. Here's how we handle each.
New-build & builder's turf rescue
Builder's turf is usually laid on subsoil with no drainage. We lift, import 100mm of screened topsoil, install drainage if needed, then turf. Often a transformational result for under £2,500 on a typical garden.
Bare ground / new build areas
Hardcore and rubble removed, geo-fabric for weed suppression where appropriate, full topsoil import, levelled and turfed. Includes a fall away from the property to prevent ponding.
Repair patching
For dead spots, mower-damage or dog-urine burn we cut and lift the damaged section, refresh the soil, and patch with matching turf. £45-£120 typical.
Turf types we lay
Standard premium ryegrass blend for hard-wearing family lawns; finer fescue blend for ornamental and feature lawns; shade-tolerant blend for north-facing or tree-canopied gardens. We'll recommend based on your site — not what we have in the van.
Residential vs commercial
Commercial turfing (holiday parks, pubs, school grounds) is quoted with a phased programme so areas can be brought back into use in sequence. We supply RAMS and proof of insurance as standard.
